Welcome to our 13th newsletter of the school year
Friday March 17th 2017
We are planning to present all our future newsletters electronically so this newsletter has been designed in the format that it will be in online. In order not to use up your data allowances when you access it on your mobile phones and other devices we have had to adapt the format and reduce the colours and pictures we use (although we still have quite a few images in this final paper copy!). We will not be sending home paper copies of Newsletters from now on unless you specifically request one at the school office. We hope that our production costs will be reduced as a result.
MRS BARNSHAW’S WRITING AWARD TEA PARTY
Over the last two weeks I have been joined by the following children for my Writing Tea Parties. If your child has been selected for the award, you will receive a copy of their piece of writing and the certificate. Please talk about the writing with your child and of course praise them for their hard work. Thank you children, I am very impressed with your work! Best wishes from Mrs Barnshaw.
RULES ABOUT RIDING BIKES TO SCHOOL
NEW PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
Would you like to be involved in setting up a new Parent Teacher Association? We already have a few people who are keen to be involved and now need to encourage other parents/carers who might be interested to join them. If you have any good fund raising ideas or are willing to help organise and run events, this new group would really appreciate and welcome your involvement. This could be on a regular or occasional basis and you would not be committed to every event or meeting if you were unable to do so. The group would be looking at ways to raise funds for the school to spend on resources. You may have heard in the media that all schools are suffering from reduced budgets so we would like to explore ways we could raise additional funds to support resources that we might not otherwise afford. The PTA group might want to explore running events such as quizzes, fayres, discos, tombolas, raffles, sponsored events and would welcome all new ideas to involve the school community in having fun together as well as raising money for the school. Please leave your name at the school office. We look forward to hearing from you! Many thanks.
Please remember to use the Class Dojo system to check for news about homework, class achievements and activities and to communicate with your child’s class teacher. We still have a few parents in each class who have not yet signed up for Class Dojo and we urge them to do so as soon as possible so that they are fully up to date with their child’s school life. Thank you.
VISIT FROM SANTA POD TEAM
On Thursday, the team from Santa Pod Raceway brought one of their dragsters along for the year 2 children to look at as part of their integrated curriculum work. The team started the day with a whole school assembly followed by each year group visiting the car and having the opportunity to ask questions.
YEAR 3 ITALIAN DAY
What an exciting day Year 3 had yesterday! Not only did the children design and create their own pizza but they were involved in preparing a full Italian banquet, from starters to desserts! The children decorated our pizzeria with placemats, bunting and Michelangelo inspired art. We even carried out some research into traditional Venetian masks and created our own! We also had time to learn about the dragster car that visited school yesterday. Thank you to all of the grown ups in Year 3 and the kitchen staff who made this an unforgettable and incredibly delicious experience for all of the children!
We would like to say thank you to our parents for their generous contributions and efforts put into the children's Italian inspired outfits. A special thank you to Teeghan’s Mum for giving us goodies from Frankie and Benny’s! We had a brilliant day!
YEAR 4 FOOTBALL MATCH
Our Year 4 footballers performed with great determination and lots of team spirit in their tough match against Millway this week. We’d like to say well done to Tyrell, Riley, Akasha, Miguel, Keira, Elorm, Jaydon, Louie, Bailey and Justin.
CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Wednesday morning 24 children from Y4 and 5 took part in the town cross country championships at Abington Park. They ran very well on a challenging circuit and were a credit to the school with their perseverance with every child finishing the long course. They were very supportive of each other and of other schools too. We are extremely proud of them all and are full of admiration for all they achieved. Very well done to Riley, Jaydon, Saheel, Kacper, Laynie, Marta, Akasha, Tyrell, Bethany, Myla, Chizara and Victoria in Year 4 and to Travis, Dylan, Cavan, Thomas, Adrian, Baylee, Kara, Cori-lea, Charlie Mae and Daniella.
GOOD LUCK MISS HACKWELL!
We wish Miss Hackwell lots of luck as she leaves us this week to start her maternity leave.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Please remember to encourage and support your child with any homework challenges they may have and, most importantly, ensure they relax and have some fun too! Keep checking the Class Dojo for more information about class events and learning.
With best wishes to you all from everyone at Hunsbury Park.
