Safeguarding Overview

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. The welfare and safety of pupils who attend our school is our paramount concern. We will promote the health, well-being and safety of the pupils in all we do.When visiting our school, recognising our safeguarding team is easy, all safeguarding DSL's wear an orange coloured lanyard.

Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • preventing harm to children’s health or development
  • ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes

Safeguarding children and child protection guidance and legislation applies to all children up to the age of 18. Child Protection is part of Safeguarding and promoting welfare. It refers to the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering, or are likely to suffer, significant harm.

Staff and Governors at Hunsbury Park Primary School are aware that many children are the victims of different kinds of abuse and that they can be subjected to social factors that have an adverse impact upon their lives – including domestic violence, substance misuse, bullying, mental health and radicalisation. We also acknowledge that safeguarding incidents could happen anywhere, and staff should be alert to possible concerns arising.

Through our curriculum we teach children to stay safe and happy. We encourage the understanding that any problem or worry that they may have is legitimate, and to share their worries, big or small with their trusted adult; at home; school or with ChildLine.

Online Safety

At Hunsbury Park Primary School, we are working with National Online Safety (www.nationalonlinesafety.com) to help make the internet a safer place for all pupils by providing training and support for all members of the school community. We have a number of acceptable use policies which can be found on the policies page.

It is National Online Safety’s mission to make the internet a safer place for children. They achieve this through equipping all school staff, parents and children with the knowledge they need to understand online dangers and how best to react should an incident arise through a variety of online courses and webinars.

How Does It Work

National Online Safety (NOS) achieve this through the execution of multiple initiatives which help reduce online risks:

  • NOS certification membership for schools showcasing commitment to Online Safety education
  • Online Safety courses for the whole school community including staff, parents and pupils
  • Specialist training in key topics related to keeping children safe online
  • Online Safety educational resources and classroom packs to support Teachers to teach Online Safety as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.

Parents and carers are invited to follow this link to take part in the Annual Level One Certificate in Online Safety for Parents and Carers Course and to gain access to explainer videos, weekly guides and further resources.
